Annual Glentathlon event takes place this weekend

THE sixth running of the annual Glentathlon event will be held in Glenravel this Saturday, October 16.

First run in 2005 as a result of a bet between four locals looking to gain bragging rights for the winter months, it has evolved and grown, initially as part of Glenravel Festival Week, attracting an average of 35 competitors.

In 2009, the Glentathlon evolved into the mainstream as a one-day adventure race, which appeals to those from further afield. It resulted in a change in the ability of competitors and the challenge has been elevated to an entirely new level.

The Glentathlon is made up of four stages - cycling (40km), running (10km), cycling (5km) and an obstacle run (2km) - and is expected to host all levels from beginner to experienced.

The Glentathlon works in partnership with the prestigious Glenravel Community Complex which has heralded a new era of sporting prowess in the area and the Glentathlon seeks to exploit this talent from near and afar by providing the platform for good natured, tough competition.

Registration takes place at Glenravel Sports and Community complex from 10am this Saturday with the event starting at 11am sharp. A relay team option, for teams of three or four competitors, is also available.
