Another busy week for Springwell Runners as they excel once again

Loughry College, Cookstown was the venue for Sperrin Harriers five Mile Classic Road Race on Friday evening.

Springwell’s Gemma Turley claimed her second win of the week as she crossed the line in 30:47. Local lady, Pauline McGurren (Sperrin Harriers) took second place in 32:34, before Geraldine Quigley (Larne AC) claimed third place in 33:00. Springwell ladies Gemma, Karen and Linda won the ladies team prize.

One hundred and twenty three runners took part in the Portrush Parkrun on Saturday morning. .

Springwell’s David Jackson led the runners home in 19:41 with Millie Gray of Harrogate Harriers first lady in 22:17.

Jim and Agnes Platt ran the Waterworks Parkrun on Saturday. Jim ran 24:06 and Agnes 36:53.

Foyle Valley hosted the second race of their ‘Out the Line’ Series, on Tuesday evening.

Nearly one hundred runners lined up for the 5K, with City of Derry’s Paul McCafferty just piping club mate, Cathal Logue to the line to win in 16:32, while Cathal followed in 16:34 for second place.  Stephen Connor (Foyle Valley) claimed third place in 16:39.

The ladies race wasn’t just as close, with Springwell’s in-form Gemma Turley securing a comfortable victory in 18:41.  Miriam Bridge (City of Derry) took second place in 20:37, while unattached athlete Charlene McIntyre crossed the line in 20:50 to finish third.

Springwell’s Andrew Dowey completed the course in 18.15.

Springwell Juniors had a good evening at North Down’s Open Meet on Tuesday evening.
Sally Brown finished first F20 in the 100m in 13.94; Conor Christies came home second in the M20 1500m in 4:12.93 and Luke Dinsmore won the M17 1500m in 4:31.40.

Springwell’s Ciara Toner was the first lady across the line at the Malin 5K on Sunday 28 July. Ciara recorded a time of 19.33.The event raised more than €1400 for the RNLI.
