Another draw for Waveney Youth at Coleraine

WAVENEY travelled to Coleraine to play Bertie Peacocks and for the second week in a row drew 1-1.

Waveney started the game on the front foot passing the ball around well but never really threatened a dogged Bertie’s defence.

It was against the run of play that Bertie’s took the lead. With their first attack they won a corner and from the resulting corner, confusion in the Waveney defence allowed the Bertie’s striker to fire home the loose ball. Waveney continued to press forward with Nico Dunlop and David Watt controlling the midfield.

Waveney almost equalised when Camryn Millar was inches away from connecting with a through ball from Nico Dunlop and Joel Godfrey saw his header from a Robbie Perkins cross come back off the cross bar but Waveney did get back on level terms before half time when a one two between Nico Dunlop and Camryn Millar released Robbie Perkins who coolly slotted home at the far post.

Waveney upped the tempo in the second half with most of the play in the Bertie’s half but Bertie’s were dangerous on the break and a great save from Jordan Barrow in the Waveney goal kept the scores level. Waveney had strong claims for a penalty turned down when a Berties defender appeared to handle the ball in the box and some last ditched defending from Berties saw shots from Nico Dunlop, Camryn Millar and Michael Kernohan all blocked straight after one another. Joel Godfrey was denied by a good save from the Bertie’s goal keeper as Waveney searched for the winner but they were unable to find it to leave the final score 1-1.
