Lisnagarvey 6

Garvey collected another three league points at Deramore on Saturday when they defeated Harlequins by 6 goals to 3 in atrocious conditions.

Taking themselves to a 4-0 lead at the half time stage, Garvey took the foot off the pedal and allowed the home side to score three goals and almost threaten the result.

Timmy Cockram showed his class in the 15th minute when he carried the ball across the circle and unleashed a reverse shot which rocketed into the roof of the net.

A well timed tackle by James Lorimer saved Garvey from a Harlequins equaliser and immediately the ball travelled to the other end and Andy Williamson found the net for goal number two in the 19th minute.

Garvey keeper John Tormey had to make a save but the Harlequins pressure was short lived as Garvey increased their lead to 3-0. A shot by Timmy Cockram was saved by the home keeper only for Daniel Buser to follow up and score from the rebound.

In the 33rd minute after a foul on a Garvey player in the circle, Timmy Cockram completed a very successful 35 minutes by slotting home the fourth goal from the penalty spot.

It was the home side which was next to score. Ex Garvey player Ivan Steen blasted the ball into the Garvey circle and a Harlequins forward got a stick contact to beat John Tormey.

Garvey responded with a well taken goal from their 4th penalty corner. The ball was switched from James Lorimer to Timmy Cockram who had room to score with some ease.

At 5-1, many would have thought the game was over but a lot of credit must go the Harlequins who never gave up the cause and their effort was rewarded with two more goals. For a moment at 5-3, the game was slightly more competitive. It was Garvey who ended the game and settled the league points with a sixth goal in the 68th minute. A four man move led to Peter MacDonnell scoring at the right hand post. Garvey now look forward to their Irish Senior Cup game next Saturday. They travel to Dublin to play Dubllin YMCA and expect a hard 70 minutes. The last two encounters between the teams have ended with success for Garvey but they will have to at their best to progress to the second round. Their chances with will hopefully boosted by the return on Jason Lynch to the squad after his groin injury.
