Another trophy for Olivia

Olivia Mehaffey has added yet another trophy to her already lengthening list of 2014 successes.

The Banbridge High School student has now won the Cork Scratch Cup, largely thanks to a stunning eight under first round score. She followed it up with a two over par second round as the wind picked up and that was enough to cruise to a five shot victory over a field that includeed former European Tour pro and local favourite Claire Coughlan Ryan.

Olivia began with an eagle three, almost holing her second shot for an albatross. She carded another seven birdies and one bogey in an almost flawless opening round.

Now she’s off to Tramore GC, Waterford to represent Ulster before heading to Scotland for the Helen Holm Scottish Open Stroke Play Championship at Royal Troon from 25-27 April, where she’ll look to impress the Curtis Cup selectors.

Thanks to her early season form, she’s in with a real chance of securing a wildcard selection in Tegwen Matthew’s GB&I team to face USA in the top ladies’ amateur team match but much will depend on her performance at Troon and in Wales the following week.
