Antrim recover from bad start to ease past Down

Despite conceding two early goals, which saw them trail by 2-0 to 0-1 at one stage, Antrim easily overcame the challenge of Down in Sunday evening’s Ulster Senior Camogie semi-final which was played in pouring rain in Dunloy.

The visitors got off to a flying start when with two goals which in truth should have been easily dealt with by the Antrim goalkeeper Elenor Mallon and for a period the Saffrons appeared to be in a spot of trouble. However with Jane Aadms, Katie McAleese and Shannon Graham in excellent form up front the Saffrons began to claw their way back and when Adams scored a great individual goal in the twenty-third minute Antrim had a lead they were never to relinquish.

1-9 to 2-0 ahead at half-time Antrim maintained the pressure after the restart and Shannon Graham grabbed her team’s second goal with a low shot that beat the Down goalkeeper from close range. Adams continued to inspire and the points kept coming before Katie McAleese fired in goal number three following a great Adams solo run. Natallie McGuinnes and substitute Louise McAleese added points before Shannon Graham grabbed her second-goal to seal en emphatic win and book a place in the Ulster final against Derry on Saturday 25th June
