The Chairman of the Leisure Services Committee, Cllr Thomas Beckett, said: “Lisburn is the European City of Sport for 2013 and we have a wealth of sporting offer and sporting success in the City. I am confident the centrally located Tennis Dome will prove to be a hugely popular and will compliment the wide range of sporting choice and facilities already in the City.

Mr Brian Cushnie is the Director of Tennis Fundamentals and has been coaching development tennis within the community in Lisburn for years with his wife, Tina.

Brian is currently assisting the Council by providing tennis coaching and lessons at the Tennis Dome. There will be a number of open days held to allow people to see the facility and hear what is on offer.

For a trial period the Tennis Dome is open daily Monday to Friday from 10am to 5pm until Saturday 22nd December and in the New Year from 2nd to 13th January. In addition the tennis courts will be open on Monday and Thursday evenings from 5.30pm to 9.30pm during this period.

Mr Cushnie said: “There are three full-sized courts within the Dome and we are anticipating significant interest from the public. Even though it is extremely cold at the moment we have seen quite a few people trying out the courts.

“We have always seen a big interest in tennis in the Lisburn area and this three court Dome is a fantastic opportunity for players to continue their interest throughout the year.”
