Ballyhegan and Tir na nOg players have been selected to represent the county under 14s across a first-team squad.

Blathnaid Hendron and Aisling McGrane will represent Ballyhegan in the first-team panel - with Tir na nOg’s Clia Creaney, Georgia McNally and Eva Lambe also involved in selection.

“After considerable assessment of players over the past 10 weeks, the mentors of the under 14s’ county team have decided upon the first team and development team players at this stage,” said a squad official. “This is by no means the final list as we don’t have to register the teams with Ulster Ladies until March 14 so some movement between squads could occur.

“The reason to split the squad at this stage is to ensure quality training sessions, as it is impossible to train 54 girls on one pitch and achieve skills development and improvement required.

“I would like to thank all the girls for all the hard work they put in over the trial period.

Armagh ladies’ football has a bright future with the depth of talent that is clearly there.

“Not every county has the talent to register two teams for the Ulster competition so well done to everyone.

“We are, however, particularly short in goalkeepers.

“We will be trailing a number of players for this position for both teams over the next 10 weeks or so.

“So, if there is anyone in the development team that would like to be considered for a goalkeeper in the first team just let us know.”
