Ards luck story forholders Ballymoney as they crash out of Ulster Shield semi-final on penalties

Holders Ballymoney travelled to Civil Service on Sunday to play Ards in the semi final of the Ulster Shield and although they fought tooth and nail they came out on the wrong side of a 4-3 sudden death penalty shoot out.

Ards were the quicker to settle into the game and put Money on the back foot but the Money defence held out until the 19th minute when a tap in at the near post put Ards in front. Ards continued to penetrate the Money 25yrd line and pepper the goal with shots but Kate McKane in the Money goals was well up to the challenge and pulled of some super saves to keep the team in the game.

Money worked hard and tirelessly to build from the back and started to find their feet in the game but chances were few and the net could not be found in the first half.

The second half started with Ards dominating again and McKane produced two massive stick saves to keep the Ards team at bay. Money continued to battle and were on the wrong end of a few decisions but the managed to force a penalty corner with 10mins to go and were unfortunate not to capitalise but with 7mins to go they won another which Susie Sneddon hammered home.

Both teams fought hard ‘till the final whistle but extra time and silver goal were the next stage of the game.

Again both teams battled and although it may have been exciting to watch from the side lines in was nerve wracking in the dug outs..Kate McKane again produce a cracker save from point blank range but penalty strokes was the end result.

With Ards going first and going wide Nikki Parke stepped up and scored. Ards scored their next three and Kate did well to save their last.
