Armagh lose opening game

ARMAGH lost their opening game in the Dr McKenna Cup when they went down 1-12 to 0-16 to the UUJ in Crossmaglen.

Speaking after the defeat Orchard County manager Paddy O’Rourke said he would give all players in his panel some competitive experience in an orange jersey.

“The remaining games in the competition will be used to give all squad players game time”, he said. “This will be giving as many fellas as possible som football”.

Armagh’s new look 15 went down by a point to the varsity side which was reasonable considering the closed season training ban, the postponement of last week’s game and the disruption of the county side’s training regime due to weather conditions which made all outdoor activity unfeasible.

The newly-introduced experimental rules caused a certain amount of controversy, particularly where hand-pass issues were concerned.

Armagh under 21 player Jamie Clarke and senior star Stefan Forker both lined out for the University side who will be taking on the Sigerson Cup competition later this season. Armagh travelled to Iniskeen, to face Monaghan last night (Wednesday) and will face Fermanagh at the Athletic Grounds on Sunday.
