ARMOY AIMING FOR MORE SUCCESS AS SEASON KICKS OFF

Armoy Rugby Club was formed in 1975 when a group of local men took it upon themselves to form a wee club, partly in order to have an excuse for a social gathering on a Saturday.

Originally they played in navy blue jerseys with a white collar but this was changed some years later to the more recognisable yellow and black hoops which they wear today.

Over the years the club has experienced many triumphs the most recent being last season when they won the Ulster League North and remained unbeaten in the league all season.

One particularly sweet victory was over neighbours Ballymoney V who were humbled 62-0 at Limepark.

The club is about to embark on another season on September 10 when Ballymoney visit Lime Park.

This coming season sees Armoy having to make five trips to County Donegal to face some familiar teams and some new additions to their league.

The club train on Wednesday evenings at 7.30pm and this season they have appointed a new coach Ian Caldwell.

Ian was captain of a successful Ballymena 1st XV and has also represented Ulster A.

There is a great deal of enthusiasm at the club presently as they have great plans for expansion with the reinstatement of youth rugby teams and there are also plans to have a new club house and changing rooms in place in the near future.

If anyone is looking to join Armoy please feel free to come along to training on Wednesdays, you will be made to feel more than welcome regardless of previous experience.
