Armoy exit McCambley Cup

ARMOY were back in action on Saturday after a four week lay off.

However, the rest proved no good as a below-par performance saw them exit the McCambley Cup to a very average Larne side at Limepark.

From the start of the match too many errors and handling skills were to let the home side down.

This resulted in few try scoring chances and the only points to come before half-time were two penalties from Larne to leave them 6-0 up at the interval.

A strong talk at half time worked wonders as Armoy pinned the visitors in their own 22 metre area for long periods.

Driving runs from Craig and Shannon proved useful and from an offside in a ruck a penalty was awarded and Nesbitt closed the score to three points.

The same player missed a penalty with five minutes left to level the score but it was not to be.

M McClafferty nearly barged over for a try on the stroke of full-time and earned the man of the match award for his all round performance at second row.

After the match captain Gareth Christie said he was disappointed with the result.

The forwards played reasonable well but the backs never were able to put together enough try scoring chances he said.

Next week it is back to league action with a trip down the road to Coleraine.
