Armoy too slick for City side

ARMOY recorded their biggest win of the season so far when they defeated City of Derry by 49-7 at Limepark.

This was a resounding comeback from the previous week’s defeat and keeps the club in contention at the top of the league.

With only three minutes of the match gone E.Casey opened the scoring when he took the ball at speed and touched down below the posts with P.Kerr converting.

A. Bartlett was next to touch down when he took the ball from a ruck on the opposition 22 metre line and sprinted in for a try. P. Kerr again converted. Two more tries were quick to follow by Casey and McConaghy and were converted by Kerr. However, on the stroke of halftime after a period of sustained pressure, the visitors were awarded a penalty try after the referee decided that Armoy were constantly being offside in the rucks. This left the score at 28-7 at half time.

The second half started with Armoy in attack and camped in the opposition 22. From a scrum the ball went out to G.McConaghy at centre who side stepped a flat footed defence and ran in to touch down under the posts for a simple conversion from Kerr.

It was all Armoy now and Casey rounded of his hat-trick when he took the ball on the half way line and out ran the defence to score and claim the man of the match title in the process. This was surely his best match in an Armoy jersey and much more is to come of this talented player.

The last try of the match and probably the best came from J. Cassley at centre who took the ball from B.Kelly and smashed his way through several would be tackles to touch down below the posts and leave several defenders lying in his wake and feeling the full wrath of Cassley on the charge. P. Kerr kept his 100 percent record of conversion with the conversion kick.

Captain G. Christie introduced the subs onto the pitch and all of them played their part although no more scores were to come and the match finished with the feeling of a job well done by the home team.

G.Christie said after the match that it was the best performance of the season so far and he thought that the good turn out at training was paying dividends and appealed for all players to turn out on Wednesday night at training.

No match as yet is arranged for next Saturday but a match of some sort is expected to be arranged.
