There was a marathon, 10k and Half Marathon performances at Omagh and Cookstown, plus the normal parkrun activity on Saturday morning, with the usual quota of podiums, Personal Bests and phenomenal performances!

A small group of Springwell members travelled to Omagh to take part in the various races on offer at the strangely named Muck Hogs Marathon/Half/10K/5K which aimed to generate funds for the Cash for Kids Charity.

On a weekend noted for tough courses and humongous finishers medals, the ones dished out at this event were quite possibly amongst the most unique that I have yet seen!

Marathon “nutter” Helena Dornan had a great run in the marathon, obviously, finishing in just over the four hr mark and claiming fourth Lady spot, despite having unfortunately having gone off course, while Rebecca Clarke and Caroline Taylor took on the 10k challenge.

A number of Limavady members also took part including John Butcher, another marathon fanatic and Stephen Rainey but as of going to press no official results were yet available so I am unable to verify all who ran/times achieved.

On Saturday 30th July, a host of well-known names form Northern Ireland were in action at the well-organised Le Cheile International Track & Field Meeting in Leixlip, Ireland.

The event was co-hosted by the Irish Milers Club (IMC), with it being their final fixture of the season.

Springwell was very ably represented at thias prestigious meeting by two of our brightest young running stars, Neil Johnston and Jonathan McKee.

Neil had a brilliant run to finish third in the 3000M in a time of 8:23:90 while Jonny battled hard in a big field to claim an excellent 9th in his 1500m race in 4:07:67.

Congratulations to both on a couple of superb performances at this exceptionally high level of competition.

On Friday 29th July just short of two hundred athletes turned out for the annual Springwell Running Club LacPatrick Milk Run, a tough 5 mile road race.

Congratulations though, must go to Christina Shiels and Amanda Scott who both ran Personal Bests on this difficult course. Good work ladies, keep the training up and the results will come!

As well as the regular parkrun on home turf at Portrush.
