ATHLETICS: County Antrim Harriers weekly update

Country Antrim Harriers' marathon mileage started on Sunday (May 1) with Christine Neeson, Talitha Collins, Eileen Stewart, Marion Morrow and Kim Gleave completing in the East Antrim Marathon Series (EAMS) Carrick Coastal Half; and Louise Smart completing the full distance.

The ladies ran well with Louise Smart achieving top podium place (1F overall).

On May Day, five Harriers toed the line for the Belfast City Marathon. Lyn Hardie (unofficial PB), Ross McGowan, Colin Gilmore and Gordy Brown (in his marathon debut as a Harrier) dug deep to produce great times.

The club’s relay team, Graeme O’Hara, Lisa Montgomery, Jennifer Moore, Natasha Henderson and Claire Oliphant, put in strong performances, bettering the time of the club’s 2015 relay team. Louise Smart, running her second marathon in 24-hours, and was part of the EAMS fundraiser for world record setting attempt for the most Oompa Loompas running a marathon together!

Earlier in week, seven ladies, travelled to Ballymoney for the annual Springwell Running Club Purple Ladies 5k. All the ladies gave gutsy performances: Natasha Henderson (21:19); Louise Smart (21:29); Jane Kinnear (25:33); Marian Hayes (27:36); Martina Armstrong (31:39); Grace Startin (32:07); and Eileen Stewart (32:08).

While on Thursday, Christine Murray, at a reception in Cookstown, received an award for her age category win at the recent Sperrin Harriers Winter League Trail series.
