ATHLETICS: East Antrim Harriers April report

It was a busy April of racing for the athletes of East Antrim Harriers, with many performing well and achieving personal bests.

On Sunday, April 10, two athletes took part in the Titanic Quarter 10k. Ross Mercer finished in 36:19 followed closely by Chris Collins in 37:24.

Chis Collins continued his fine early season form at the Queen’s 5k in a time of 18:01.

On Sunday, April 24 the Harriers had six athletes participate in the Virgin London Marathon, four of which broke the three-hour barrier. First home was Gary Davison in 2:55:02 followed by Mercer in 2:55:03, Billy Reed 2:57:37, Michael Allen 2:58:21 and Vivien Davison in 6:30:00. David Turtle did not finish due to injury.

On May Day Bank Holiday Monday, six athletes took part in the Belfast City Marathon.

Collins was the first to break the tape in a time of 3:08:13 followed closely by James Kitchin 3:10:32, Jim Finlay 3:15:17, Andy Liddle 3:38:41, Jonathan Craig 3:38:41 and Tim Kahanna 5:10:08.

East Antrim Harriers meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:45pm at their clubhouse in Ballyclare. All abilities are welcome. Further details can be found at www.eastantrimharriersac.co.uk.
