The race, starting in Newcastle’s Donard Park, involves runners climbing Northern Ireland’s two highest mountains as fast as they can, before finishing back in the seaside town.

Urwin completed the gruelling course in an impressive time of 1:46:18 to take 119th place, with Smyth following in 2:23:20, securing 223rd place overall.

On Sunday, East Coast AC’s juniors and seniors impressed at the popular Titanic 10k and mile event in Belfast.

In the mile race, Kelly Patterson showed her class with a finish time of 6:09, giving her sixth place in the girls’ category.

Charlie Patterson was the next familiar face to finish, clocking 7:10 (24th place junior boy), followed closely by Ewan Davis in 7:21 (25th place junior boy).

In bright but windy conditions, well over one thousand runners set off on the flat and fast 6.2 mile seniors route.

Club captain Chris Davis was the first East Coast member home, finishing in 40:55 to take 152nd place overall.

He was followed by Iain Bailie in 43:58 (232nd) and Kenny Holmes in 46:45 (325th place). Gary Hawe completed the East Coast AC contingent at the event, clocking 47:21 (354th place) for the 10k distance.
