Forty-five budding athletes came along to enrol and participate in the session with all getting the opportunity to participate in running, jumping and throwing activities planned out by the club’s Junior Academy coaching team.

“We aim to deliver coaching in the full repertoire of athletics activities for our juniors as recommended by UK Athletics, and we are very proud and delighted to see the fun and enjoyment of the young ones as they threw themselves into the various coaching sessions,” said a club representative.

The coaching team for the Junior Academy is Rhonda Brady, Sammy Drummond and John Neill, all having UKA Athletics Level 2 Certified Athletics Coaching qualifications.

The trio are ably supported by a team of coaching assistants: Julie Allen, Ian Brennan, Geraldine Hastings, Marty McKay and Bert Shaw, who all have UKA Athletics Level 1 Certified Athletics Coaching Assistant badges. Geraldine is also the Designated Child Protection Officer for the Academy.

The club would like to say a big thank-you to Larne High School who have been very supportive and allowed the Academy to host the training sessions at their superb facilities.
