ATHLETICS: Larne AC members enjoy McConnell Shield

Eleven Larne AC members joined hundreds of runners at the Sixmile Water Park in Ballyclare On Saturday for the annual running of East Antrim Harriers’ McConnell Shield cross country race.

In the junior races two of Larne AC’s newest members took part in their first cross country races.

Will Barham was first to toe the line in the Under-14s, and he started at the back of the pack and worked his way through to finish fourth overall. He was second boy, clocking 6:08 for the mile distance.

Next up was Scott Robinson who was racing in the Under-16s. He ran a very strong race and finished in fourth overall. He was third boy in 15:52 for the two-mile distance.

In the ladies’ and male vets 60+ three-mile race, Patricia Blair led the Larne AC contingent home in 20:34 (31st). Next was Jenna McCollum 23:47 (87th), who was followed by Davy Henderson 24:40 (100th) and Louisa Garrett 26:11 (133th).

In the McConnell Shield open and vets five-mile race John Neill was first home for the club in 32:12 (66th). He was followed by Andy Gregg 33:41 (99th), Bryan Magee 33:44 (101st), Paul Tilson 34:52 (129th), Jonny Cloe 36:21 (153rd) and Bobbie Garrett 36:22 (155th).
