ATHLETICS: Larne AC runners tackle Comber Cup

Nine Larne AC members joined over 350 runners for the first cross country race of the season, the Comber Cup, which was hosted by Ballydrain Harriers.

The first race was the ladies’ and male vet (60+), a 6k which consisted of three laps of the challenging course. Charlie Mebin was first home for the club and had a superb run to claim third, crossing the finish line in 26:45.

Louisa Garrett and Emma McKeen were taking part in their debut cross country race. Both girls showed their strength and determination with Louisa taking 113th place in 32:31, and Emma 130th in 33:45.

The final race of the day was for the Comber Cup. Running four laps of the course (8k), Craig Hutchinson showed he’s returning to form by claiming second in the MV50 category in 29:50 (42nd overall).

The rest of the runners followed in quick succession: Bernard Brady 31:08 (63rd), John Neil 31:28 (68th), Nigel Kane 31:53 (75th), Andy Gregg 32:28 (85th), Bryan Magee 32:39 (90th) and Bobbie Garrett 33:16 (98th).

On Sunday, Mark Todd ran the Armagh 10-mile road race. On a tough, undulating course he pushed forward and smashed his personal best from last year by nine minutes, clocking 01:16.
