ATHLETICS: McCormick leads the way for Seapark at Tollymore Marathon

Last weekend’s wet weather didn’t deter Seapark athletes from competing in some great local races.

On Saturday, 18 athletes travelled to Tollymore Forest to compete in 26 Extreme’s marathon, half-marathon and 10k race. Charlie McCormick was first club member home in the full marathon event with a time of 3:53. Other times: Bobbie Irvine 3:57, Richard Hetherington 4:09, Mark Welsh 4:09. In the half-marathon event Ian Clelland finished ninth overall in 1.31.

Other results: Gillian Barnhill 1:47; Paul Daniels 1:50; Gary Connolly 1:56; Karen Poag 2:07; Phil Poag 2:10; Neill Harper 2:12; Marie Nicholson 2:23, Vivien Davidson 2:23, Jacqui Coghlan 2:25, Alison Welsh 2:26, Becki Tester 2:42 (guide runner). Nicola McKay and Thomas Dunlop ran the 10k distance in a time of 1:05.

On Sunday, Caroline Salters had a fabulous run finishing as third lady overall in the Decathalon Half-Marathon with a time of 1:42. Robert Murray ran a personal best time of 1.38.

In the Decathalon 10k race, Brendan Rice finished in 42:00, Ronald Simms 42:52, Gillian Barnhill 46:09, Jonathan Bell 47:20 and Andy Smyth 50:55.

Also on Sunday, Trevor Lamb ran in the MO Run at Ormeau Park. He finished this 10k event in a time of 58 minutes.

Seapark AC is set to host its annual prize evening at Ownie’s Bistro in Carrickfergus on Saturday (November 21).
