In the event, which attracted 104 runners, athletes had one hour to complete a 4.2-mile route every hour, on the hour until there was only one person, well, left standing.

Seapark AC’s Gillian Cordner also took part, finishing after completing 12 x 4.2-mile laps (50.4 miles).

Irvine took first place after a gruelling 30 x 4.2-mile laps (126 miles). Second-place Pat Staunton exceeded the hour limit (1:01:35) for lap 29.

At the same event, County Antrim Harriers’ Louise Smart’s meticulous preparation, determination, essential support (provided by fellow Harrier, Lisa Montgomery) and pacing allowed her to complete 15 laps (63 miles) - one of only 17 men and six ladies to do so. With only four ladies moving on to lap 16 it was another outstanding achievement from Louise.

Meanwhile, Ronald Simms represented Seapark Athletic Club at the Omagh CBS 10K on Saturday (Feb 20) clocking a time of 40:05. He was 18th out of a field of 183 runners.

Online entries for County Antrim Harriers’ inaugural Ballyclare May Fair 10k and 5k events are now open.
