Atkinson picks up Player of Year award

CITY of Belfast Golf Club members and their guests gathered at the Lansdowne Hotel on Saturday, March 28 for their End of Year Dinner and Prize Presentation.

The Captain of the Mallusk club, Mr Joe Dillon, welcomed members and their guests and thanked those who had served on committees for their support during the year and all the staff whose efforts were much appreciated by the members.

After an excellent meal came the presentations. The first presentation was the annual charity appeal cheque for more than 1,500 which was presented to Sarah Dillon on behalf of the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children. Club Treasurer Johnny McDowell assisted Captain Joe Dillon in making the presentation.

This was followed by the Matchplay trophies - David Startin won the Singles and Joe Dillon & James Hutchinson the Doubles.

Darran Long won the Best Averages trophy and Paul Atkinson the Most Improved Player.

The final trophy, the Player of the Year award, was presented jointly by Darran Long and outgoing Captain Joe Dillon to a very pleased Paul Atkinson.

The final event of the presentations was the installation of the incoming Captain for 2010-11, Mr Paul Ritchie.
