Autumn Activities Programme for young people in borough

With the summer holidays over and school just started Coleraine Bourough Council seeks to encourage young people to kick start the onset of autumn by registering on one of the Sports Development and Recreation activity programmes.

This autumn activity programme comprises Bannsiders Bambinos, Girls Futsal Club, Just Dance Club, Causeway Junior Netball and Coleraine Junior Hockey.

Bannsiders Bambinos is a joint initiative between Coleraine Borough Council and Coleraine Football Club for boys and girls aged between 4 and 10 years where registered members will learn new skills and tricks as well as participating in fun small-sided games.

Bannsiders Bambinos meets each Wednesday, commencing September 26th from 3.00pm – 4.00pm for the 4 – 6 year olds and from 4.00pm – 5.00pm for the 7 – 10 year olds at Coleraine Leisure Centre. ‘Bambinos’ costs £2.70 per week with all new club members receiving a Free Exclusive T-shirt.

Girls Futsal Club is a new concept specifically designed for girls aged 8 to 11 years where girls can learn new football skills through the small sided game of Futsal. The fast action game on an indoor surface, played with a soft touch ball and rules create an emphasis on improvisation, creativity and technique as well as ball control and passing in small spaces.

Each child’s movement skills will all be enhanced as well as improving their agility, balance, co-ordination; increasing their speed, power, and endurance all whilst they are having incredible fun, making new friends and getting active.

Futsal for the 7 – 12 year olds meet each Tuesday from 4.30pm – 5.45pm and commences on Tuesday 25 September. The club is held at Coleraine Leisure Centre and membership is totally free; with a charge of £2.00 per week attending payable at centre reception (Pay as you Play). Just Dance Club is fun and innovative and will appeal to both boys and girls. Each week children will dance to the latest chart beats and be taught new exciting dance moves and grooves and work towards specific dance routines and performances. Just Dance Club will meet each Friday, commencing October 5th from 3.30pm – 4.30pm for the 5 – 8 year olds and from 4.30pm – 5.30pm for the 9 – 12 year olds at Coleraine West Community Centre, Rope Walk, Coleraine and costs £2.60 per week.

Junior Netball Club this joint programme between Coleraine Borough Council and Causeway Netball Club will offer children P4 to P7 the opportunity to learn Netball skills in a fun environment. Passing, catching, shooting and movement skills will all be covered on the course along with team play and formations.

The Junior Netball Club will meet each Tuesday, commencing September 25th from 5.45pm – 6.45pm at the Sports Hall Loreto College, Coleraine. Cost for the year which includes membership to Causeway Netball Club and 20 coaching sessions is £40 and is payable to the Causeway Netball Club. Registration will be on the first night from 5.30pm.

Coleraine Junior Hockey is a joint programme between Council and Coleraine Hockey Club will offer boys and girls P4 to P7 the opportunity to play and learn new Hockey skills. Dribbling, passing, shooting, goal keeping and movement skills will all be covered each week along with small games and Blitz’s against junior hockey sections from other club’s.

Coleraine Junior Hockey will meet each Saturday at the University of Ulster (Tennis Courts), commencing September 8th from 9.30am – 11.00am. Applicants can register any Saturday and become a member of Coleraine Junior Hockey.
