'˜B' team bowlers second best against Ballywalter

Ballywalter were the visitors to the Old Ballymoney Road green last weekend and they certainly found conditions to their liking when they claimed 6 of the 7 points with a 26 shot victory.

Jimmy Gage, Leslie Barr, Tommy Hill and Ivan Lynn started well against S Hedley on rink 1 and with 8 ends played they led by 10 shots to 5.

The complexion of the game appeared to change over the next 7 ends when the Ballymena men outscored the home rink by 12 shots to 2 to lead by 5 but the Ballymena men regrouped and they won 4 of the closing ends to fight back and claim an excellent 23-19 victory.

On rink 2 Stewart McCarthy, Danny McCullough, Michael Wilson and John Coulter won 5 of the opening 7 ends against K Massey to open up a 3 shot advantage.

Unfortunately they were unable to maintain this good form as the visitors won the next 6 ends to change a 5 shot deficit in to an 11 shot lead.

The remainder of the game was closer and when the regulation number of ends had been completed it was the Ballywalter rink who claimed the victory with the final score 28-16

Billy McCandless, Arnold Kenny, Jackie Robinson and Sammy Allen were involved in a low scoring game against D Palmer on rink 3.

Both of the rinks won 5 of the opening 10 ends and at this stage of the contest the visitors led by 8 shots to 6.

The Ballywalter rink had much the better of the second part of the game when they won 7 of the remaining ends and to win the game by 19 shots to 11.

On rink 2 Alan Smyth, John McFall,Geoff Padgett and David Torrington got off to a disappointing start as they conceded a count of 5 shots on the first end against A Davidson.

However by the time the game had reached the 7th end the scores were level at 8-8. Three ends later the Ballymena men were out in front with the score board reading 12-9 but the second half of the game belonged almost entirely to the visiting rink who outscored the Braid men by 15 shots to 2

This week Ballymena B entertain Falls A.
