Back-to-back league wins for Corner!

TWO weeks into the new football season and Chimney Corner have already recorded twice the number of league wins they managed all of last season!

The Antrim men followed up their opening day 1-0 IFA Championship Two win over Portstewart by beating Ballymoney United by the same score during the week.

Keith Anderson’s winner - a cross-cum-shot which deceived the keeper - 10 minutes from the end was the first time Corner had won back to back league matches since 2006.

“It was one of those games where the last 10 minutes felt like half an hour but we got there in the end and it was a great result for us,” said Corner secretary John Robinson.

Corner almost followed that up with what would have been another excellent result on Satutrday, only to concede a last minute goal in a 2-1 defeat by PSNI, one of the strongly fancied sides in the division.

Adam Gray had given Corner an 18th minute lead before the widely travelled former Irish League player Rory Hamill equalised for the police and Dariusz Adamczuk broke Corner’s hearts with time running out.

“It was a cruel ending but manager Sammy McVicker was pleased with the performance.

“It would have been wonderful to be unbeaten after three matches but we’ve already built up a six-point head start on a number of teams and we aim to build on those results,” added John.

Corner have no match this week due to the Steel & Sons Cup but McVicker will be keen to keep the momentum going ahead of the next game against Knockbreda on Saturday week.
