Riada FC entertained Bangor YM in the Irish Junior Cup and it was the home team who started the stronger of the two sides taking the game to Bangor from the first whistle.

The first half was played in horrendous conditions with both sides still managing to play some nice football despite the inclement weather.

Riada went in front midway through the first half when Agnew latched on to a Kyle Brownlow through ball and lashed low into the net across the keeper.

Agnew should have doubled Riada’s lead when he went through again but this time he saw his chipped effort go wide.

Bangor equalised with five minutes left of the half with their first shot on target, the ball squirming below Riada keeper Graham and rolling agonisingly over the line.

Riada had time for another chance before the break with Graur volleying at the keeper when he found himself well placed. Halftime 1-1.

Riada continued to be the more dangerous of the two sides at the start of the second half with Graur and Gillen firing wide and McCook hitting the post and having another two efforts saved.

Despite the number of opportunities Riada had, Bangor went in front when a clearance beat the defence and was slid home. This was quickly followed by another Bangor goal, this time direct from a corner with Riada appealing the ball didn’t cross the line.

From that point on Riada huffed and puffed and although they had all the play with numerous shots from range they just couldn’t find a goal to get back in the cup tie.

The final scored remained 1-3 to Bangor YM and a very disappointed Riada exited the Irish Junior Cup regretting a number of missed opportunities. Good luck to Bangor YM for the rest of the competition from everyone at Riada FC.
