Bad luck costs dogged Swifts

Magherafelt Reds 5 v 3 Ballymoney Olympic Swifts

THE Swifts started the game very well and controlled the first twenty minutes of the half.

They got their reward when Adrian McCook scored, chipping the keeper from 25 yards out.

Olympic then lost their centre-half Jordan Coulter who had to be carried off after a challenge from a Magherafelt forward.

Olympic were very unlucky not to reach half-time two up when Neal Robinson had a headed goal disallowed for offside, a decision deemed harsh by the visiting contingent.

Magherafelt started the second half on the front foot and equalised after 52 minutes.

This did not daunt the young Swifts team and they took the lead again from another McCook strike.

The Reds struck back with a well-taken goal.

Swifts showed great spirit to the setback and again took the lead.

Striker Owen McMullan was upended in the box when about to score leaving Damian Dunlop to step up and confidently convert the penalty.

The Swifts were reduced to ten men for the last 15 minutes when they lost a player to injury after having made their third substitution.

This finally took its toll and the strong Reds team took full advantage scoring three goals in the final 10 minutes.

This was a good performance from the Swifts against a team that will be in the running for honours at the end of the season.

The handicap of finishing the last 15 minutes with ten men probably cost the Swifts at least a share of the spoils.
