Baker Family Doubles final

Coppergate International Ballymoney and Coleraine District Snooker League

THE final of the Baker Family sponsored doubles competition was played last Thursday night at Coleraine Royal British Legion’s snooker room in front of a large crowd of supporters.

It was the Garvagh pair of Marcus Dickson and Gregory Cooke who took the opening frame against Triangle opponents Peter Martin and Aidy Toner and stole the second with Dickson sealing it on the black, but it was a nicely compiled 41 break by Cooke which sealed the first frame.

The third frame went the way of Triangle with a lovely 40 break by Aidy Toner but then Garvagh took a fourth frame and a comfortable three frames to one lead at the break.

The Triangle pair took the next two frames to level the match and seventh frame decider.

And what a cliffhanger it was.

With just the four colours remaining it was the Coleraine pair who were seven points clear, but in stepped left-hander Gregory Cooke to seal it taking the brown, blue and a cracking pink to life the spoils and a beautiful cup presented by the Baker family, with all supporters and players returning to the bar for refreshments which lasted a long time and an enjoyable evening was had by all.
