Bakers Doubles

THIS week saw the first round of the snooker doubles competition and all matches were played.

W Eakin and W Boreland of Triangle took on Dunloy young guns P McQuillan and B Darragh but Triangle went through easily to the next round.

Garvagh’s M Dickson and G Cooke were away to Ballymoney Legion’s S Walker and L McConaghie and won the match easily 3-0 with breaks of over 40 and 30 from G Cooke to claim victory.

M Crawley and R McDonnell were away to P Cochrane and D Reilly and Dunloy’s top players proved too strong for the players from Triangle.

Two breaks of 70 plus from M Hutchinson and S Clarke against L Hull and N Smyth saw another Triangle team go through to the next round.

The last match was between C Wilson and K Hutchinson go head-to-head with fellow team mates B Kennedy and D Leighton and it was two each and in the final frame an apparent foul which was not declared saw last year’s runners up go out of the doubles.

Just before Christmas the final of the S Walker Cup was played between Triangle A and Dunloy Utd and the Triangle teams are beginning to stamp their authority as they beat Dunloy 4-0 in straight frames, another trophy for Willie Eakin.
