Ballela power past Ballycran

Ballela made the long trip to the Ards to take on Ballycran for what was their best performance of the season.

Their power and energy plus their passing game blew Ballycran away as they went on to win by 15 points.

The first 10 minutes saw the game very even at two points each but when Ballela got their passing game going Ballycran’s defence could not hold them. A great catch from Ciara Kearns saw her burst forward, beat two defenders and lay off to Ciara Magee who hit a great shot into the net.

This score settled Ballela and with their strong back line of Lisa McCusker, Fiona O’Neill and Catherine O’Hare stopping Ballycran’s attacts this left more scoring opportunities for their deadly forward.

Ballela’s second goal arrived from agreat pass from captain Sinead McAvoy to Oria Magee who hit a low shot passed the Ballycran keeper to give Ballela a six-point lead.

Ballycran were not finished along shot from their number 10 deceived Helen Doyle in the Ballela goals.

Three frees from Aoibheen O’ Neill and points from Ciara McCusker, Orla Magee and Ciara Magee (two) left Ballela going in at half time leading 2-7 to 1-2.

A great pass across field from Cushia McNeill set up Oria Magee for her second goal and a few minutes later big sister Ciara hit her second goal after great work from the very impressive Ciara Kearns. Two more points from free taker Aoibheen O’Neill plus other goal from Ciara Magee left the final score Ballela 6-10 Ballycran 3-4

Helen Doyle in goals had a great game; at full back the line of Nolene Burns and Roisin McPolin were very sound while full back Alannah Magee was outstanding - she is surely one of the best full backs in the county.

The half back line of Lisa McCusker, Fiona O’Neill and Catherine O’Hare were rock solid while Ballela’s midfield of Mary O’Hare and Ciara McCusker were fantastic.

Also the half forward line of Cushia McNeill, Ciara Kearns, Aoibheen O’Neill were full of power and energy and the outstanding full forward line of Ciara Magee, Oria Magee and Sinead McAvoy could not be held by Ballycran.

Sub Sinead McGreevy played her best game of the season.
