Ballinderry and Soldierstown to clash twice in three days

THE two seeded teams, Ballinderry and Soldierstown, clash in the semi-final of the Lisburn Zone bowls Charity Cup on Monday, March 13 and meet again in the final League game, which is likely to be a title decider at Soldierstown on the Wednesday

It is probably the match which most people would have preferred to see in the final, but it gives the winners of the other semi-final between St Paul’s and Loughaghery Presbyterian the chance of a final appearance.

Loughaghery have already went further than any non-League teams by reaching the last four and they have a chance to be the first from outside the League to appear in a final. It should be another good game.

In the Rosebowl, Hillsborough Social will be favourites to reach the final by beating Aghagallon in the semi-finals and if Sloan Street can hit their best form again after a poor run they can beat Lambeg Parish, but do not rule out the Lambeg boys.

The proceeds at all these games will be in aid of the chosen charities, Oesophageal Patients’ Association NI and Stepping Stones, Lisburn. The sponsors of the competition are Denis Wilson Tools Glenavy and Easi-Park Belfast International Airport.

Semi finals dates and venues: Tuesday, March 6 at Derriaghy, Lambeg Parish v Sloan Street, Rosebowl; Thursday, March 8 at Eglantine, Aghagallon v Hillsborough Social Rosebowl (note this date changed from original due to a meeting in the hall).

Friday, March 9 at St Colman’s Dunmurry, Loughaghery v St Paul’s Cup; Monday, March 13 at Hillsborough Social, Ballinderry v Soldierstown Cup.

Teams are reminded to sort out catering between themselves and to liase with host club. An umpire from each club should cover each half.

The finals of competitions will be held at Soldierstown Parish hall on Wednesday, March 21 and Ballinderry’s home venue at Hilden Bowling Club on Thursday, March 22.
