Gerard, who last played at the 2011 World Masters, said: “I’ve that experience behind me so I expect to do well. The standard of darts will be top drawer but I’m looking forward to the challenge. This year has gone really well so I hope that I can carry that form with me into the Masters.”

Meanwhile, David said: “This will be my sixth time at the World Masters. All the world champions go to this event.”

If they qualify for the first round of the tournament they stand to gain thousands in prize cash.

Added Gerard: “We both want to do well at the World Masters but it’s really a warm-up for the Lakeside but we won’t get too far ahead of ourselves. We’ll take it one game at a time.”
