Ballycastle Golf hold August Monthly Medal competition

COLUM Egan was the winner of the August Monthly Medal at Ballycastle Golf Club on Saturday with a sparkling nett 63. Colum, part of the club's victorious Junior Cup team in 2008, covered the course in two under par gross to win by a stroke from Joe Donnelly with Harry Sheehan finishing in third place with a nett 66.

John Callan, playing off three, matched Colum's two under par gross score for a nett 66 and fourth place overall with Niall Hill in fifth place on nett 67. Neil McMaster was the third golfer to return a sub par round on Saturday and his 70 won the first gross prize with Rory McCormick in second place after his level par round of 71.

In the race for the Golfer of the Year title, Neil McMaster picked up fifteen points for his sixth place finish on Saturday and has now cut Eamon Dornan's lead down to just four points with four events remaining.

Things are considerably more comfortable for Rory McCormick in the Winchester Bowl standings as he now holds a twenty-two point advantage at the top of the table.

The next event in the Golfer of the Year and Winchester Bowl competitions will be the Brass Putter held on Saturday 28th August.

The final charity team event of the season was held at Ballycastle on Sunday 15th August with the money raised going the N.I. Cancer Care charity.

Brendan Black, David Getty, Michael Campbell and Michael Dallat were the winning team with a total of 127 points, two points ahead of Seamus Killough, Danny Taggart, Vincent Dowds and Lawrence McQuillan in second place.

The Casement Cup match-play draw has now been made and can be found on the competition notice-board. Matches take place throughout August, September and October.

Mr. Leo McIlroy's Captain's Day is held at Ballycastle on Saturday 21st August. There are a total of twelve prizes up for grabs on the big day including Veterans, Past Captains and front and back nine prizes.

The presentation takes place on Saturday evening and all prize winners are expected to attend.
