Ballycastle put the boot into Wellington

Taylor Cup 1st XI

Ballycastle High School 2-0

Wellington College, Belfast

THIS Taylor Cup game was subject to a late change in venue due to the frosty weather last Tuesday afternoon and instead of Ballycastle hosting the game it was held in a wind swept Ballymena Showgrounds.

The game began with Ballycastle passing the ball very well across the midfield and forward line with the opponents finding it hard to gain possession for a sustained period of time. The constant pressure finally paid off after five minutes when a great strike from ark Mc Allister was well saved by the goalkeeper but the ball fell to Aaron Douglas who shot first time into the bottom.

Ballycastle continued to put pressure on their opponents but the away teams defence battled hard to keep the score at one nil.

Wellington tried to hit Ballycastle on the counter attack but they found the newly formed defensive partnership of Sean Midgley and Craig Henry impossible to get the better of.

The game was all but finished only two minutes into the second half when excellent work on the right from Richard McConaghy resulted in the ball being laid back and the in form Aaron Douglas got his second of the game with a superb strike into the top corner from the edge of the circle.

Ballycastle still had the lion’s share of the possession but their fine passing and strong dribbling was disrupted temporarily when a series of substitutions were made.

It wasn’t long until Ballycastle were back in the opponents circle with Andrew Browne setting up Trevor Linton who forced the keeper to make a great save low to his left.

The final whistled signalled another strong performance and victory for Ballycastle High School and continued their winning streak in this competition with three wins from three games.
