Ballyclare and Larne could yet retain Senior 1 status for next season

Ballyclare Ladies hockey girls have been waiting for confirmation for their Senior League Section 1 relegation play-off with Raphoe, but it may not take place.

Club PRO, Sara Coulter, has confirmed that likely league restructuring is on the cards, so that Larne Ladies, who finished bottom, and Ballyclare who finished just above them could both still be playing in Section 1 next season.

“Some clubs in the Premier Section are considering joining the Irish Hockey League, and if that happens then there would be a reshuffle, that might give us and Larne a reprieve,” stated Sara.

It has also been rumoured that some clubs, at least in the lower sections, favour reorganisation on a regional basis. This season Kilkeel, Limavady and Enniskillen were all in Section 3, while Newry and Ballycastle were in Section 4, and apparently clubs have been making noises about regionalisation to cut down travelling expenses.
