Ballyclare lose out, Mossley hit magnificent seven past Saints

Ballyclare Ladies’ resistance collapsed after the interval, while their Ballymena opponents capitalised by collecting the Senior League Section 1 points.

Ballyclare's Sara Coulter makes a save against Ballymena.

Vikki Milligan’s girls had the edge in a scoreless first half at Ballyclare High School grounds on Saturday, but the Braid girls mastered the wet and windy conditions better in the second session to run out 3-0 winners.

Kerrie Bell, Suzanne Dickey, Jaquie Hanley and Milligan all had shots on target in the early stages but the Ballymena defence held out.

At the opposite end, Sara Coulter had to make several blocks, while Jade Purdy and Lorraine Ashcroft produced important clearances from several penalty corners.

The loss of Purdy with an ankle injury and playing against the elements in the second half proved to be too much for the locals.

Ballyclare Ladies panel: S Coulter, G McMaw, J Purdy, E Gamble, L Ashcroft, K Bell, S Dickey, K McLeod, V Milligan (AC), K Glenn, D McClenaghan, J McGowan, J Hanley.

The club’s Fashion Show and Cocktail Night later in the evening raised over £600 for club funds.

Mossley Fourths continued their unbeaten league run with a 1-0 win over Bangor II at the Aurora on Friday.

In what proved to be their toughest game to date, the Mossley defence were put through their paces. But Janice Wilson’s persistence paid off late in the match, leaving Bangor no way back.
