FOUR local sporting clubs are to take part in an eagerly-awaited cross-community sporting project from next week.

The Cultural Awareness Programme will feature Ballymena Rugby Club, All Saints GAC, Geraldine’s Camogie Club and Ballymena Hockey Club and will run over the next two months.

The project begins this Friday, February 11, with an introduction evening in the Des Allen Suite at Ballymena Showgrounds (7pm).

Each club will send 15-20 representatives to the programme and at the introduction evening, they will deliver a presentation about their sport and the skills involved.

The clubs will then pair off into camogie/hockey and rugby/gaelic and will be involved in a four-week cross-code coaching programme.

The four clubs will then come together for a finale on March 26 and will take part in two exhibition games prior to an All-Ireland League game at Ballymena Rugby Club.

The Cultural Awareness Programme has received funding from the Peace III programme, OFMDFM and Ballymena Borough Council’s Good Relations Unit.
