Ballymoney 2nds continue winning streak

Ballymoney Second XI hockey team continued their winning streak for the fifth match in a row with an outstanding 5-0 win over Larne ladies.

From the starting whistle Ballymoney were on top form bagging their first goal of the game only a minute in from a penalty corner. Ruth Sutherland was the scorer of this goal when she calmly slotted the ball into the bottom right hand corner at high pace.

With the attacking Ballymoney team working hard up front another penalty corner was awarded in their favour. As before Ruth knew what she had to do and struck the ball brilliantly again to get her name on the score sheet twice just before half time. In the second half both teams had to step up the intensity in order to get the best possible match. Larne put pressure on Ballymoney at the beginning of the half but that didn’t stop the Toon ladies from bagging three more goals in this half. The forward Laura Finnerty got the Ballymoney ladies their third goal of the game to start the scoring in the second half. After this goal the money girls slacked a little and got under pressure by Larne but quickly picked up the tempo again to get their fourth goal. The fourth goal was scored from a wonderfully executed penalty corner, with Ruth Sutherland at the top of the circle she swiftly slipped the ball to Lesley Davis who finally got her name on the score sheet! Ballymoney ladies continued to work hard and got their fifth and final goal with only three minutes of play left. The fifth goal was scored in open play by Laura-Jane Kernohan again with Ruth Sutherland lending a helping hand.

Everyone gave 100% and played as a great team, big thank you to Johnny McClenaghan for umpiring, Diane Kirgan for coaching.
