Ballymoney 2nds hockey girlssuffer heavy defeat to Pegasus while Dalriada draw

DESPITE putting some pressure on their opponents, Ballymoney Seconds were badly beaten in the end.

Ballymoney struggled to break down the opponents’ defence regardless of excellent ball transfer. Heads dropped after an own goal early in the game, leading to further great play from Pegasus who in turn managed to score another four goals, despite goalkeeper Kate McKane saving some suburb shots.

Ballymoney were beaten to the ball and unable to convert on any of their chances, leaving the final score five-nil.

* Ballymoney wish to congratulate their players Emma Kernohan, Jessica Moore and Alex Halliday who played for Ulster Under-18s who finished second in the Inter-pros.

* Tickets for the forthcoming Ritchie Remo concert being held by Ballymoney Hockey Club are available from Ma Kelly’s pub in Church Street, Ballymoney.

* Dalriada 1st XI hockey draw at Foyle - On Saturday Dalriada 1stXI played Foyle in a league match. Dalriada got off to a great start managing to get the ball up towards the goal very quickly but unfortunately for them couldn’t score. Dalriada continued to stay strong throughout as Foyle got a few break outs but Dalriada’s defence kept them from scoring.

Diane Ramsey, Dalriada’s sweeper, had an excellent half keeping the defence under control. At half time the score was 0-0. For the second half Dalriada started strongly narrowly missing the goal on numerous occasions. Lynn Macaulay made some excellent runs up the pitch but again Dalriada could not score.

Dalriada continued to apply pressure right until the end of the game. Overall Dalriada were quite pleased with this result. The Team would like to thank Foyle for travelling up to Ballymoney as well as Dalriada coaches, Nikki Parke and Bridget Cleland for giving up their Saturday morning to help the team.

* On Saturday Dalriada’s 2nds played against Foyle College at the JDLC and came away with an excellent 3-0 victory.

In the first half both teams played well but Sara Jamison (left wing) made a breakthrough and scored a very good goal. The home side managed to keep the lead up to the half time whistle. In the second half the girls came back wanting more goals and Sara Jamison (left wing) scored another very impressive goal.

Then it was Charlotte Calderwood’s turn to score taking it up to 3-0. With penalty corners against them the girls managed to keep the opposing side from getting a goal. Team captain Rachel McPherson (centre midfield) and her sister Sophie McPherson (right midfield) both had a good match. Player of the match deservedly went to Sara Jamison (left wing).
