Ballymoney advance in hockey’s Irish Senior Cup

BALLYMONEY have advanced in the Irish Senior Cup where they will now play the winner of Glenanne and Pegasus.

It was a good victory for Ballymoney against Randalstown who are never pushovers.

Although the Firsts were celebrating vicory there was disappoint for the Seconds who lost 4-0 against Ulster Elks.

* On Saturday 2nd of November Ballymoney 2XI hosted Ulster Elks at home.

From the whistle Ballymoney went on attack but were caught out twice within the first 6 minutes by Elks counterattacks.

The Ballymoney defence were put under pressure after 3 minutes when Elks took their chances firing the ball into the left-hand corner and a second goal after 6minutes.

Ballymoney fought back with Sara Gardener, Laura McCurdy and Morna Jardine in midfield progressing the play up the pitch.

Unfortunately for Ballymoney, Susannah Brown shot was cleared by Elks keeper.

Elks scored again following pressure on the money goalkeeper, Kate McKane making two great clearances as before, being beaten with a rebound shot lifted to her left. At half time the score was Elks 3- Ballymoney 0

Ballymoney started the second half strong making the ball do the work.

Ulster Elks were settled with a strong midfield that continually forcing their up the pitch.

A penalty corner led to a switch pass giving the Elks their fourth goal.

‘Money continued to battle but they were finding it difficult to clear their own half.

There was no lack of effort but Money are finding it hard in the top Junior division as just as hard as they thought.

Once the side has a settled squad they will continue to improve their results.
