Ballymoney Bike Week Rides in again!

This year the Travelwise NI Bike Week initiative runs from 16-24 June and Ballymoney Borough Council is working in conjunction with partners Ballymoney Cycling Club, Coleraine Borough Council and Sustrans to bring about a range of events to promote cycling and sustainable travel within the Borough and beyond.

In the lead up to Bike Week a special four week refresher course aimed at women returning to cycling has been organised in conjunction with Annette Scott, a local National Standards Cycling Instructor. The aim of the course is to regain lost confidence in cycling and recapture the fun and pleasure of riding your bike. This relaxed and enjoyable course will train ladies up to National Cycling level 2, which is the new cycling proficiency for all ages.

The course will include basic bike handling followed by on-road training in dealing with traffic and road junctions to inspire confidence when cycling “roon the toon.” The course will run on consecutive Thursday evenings, 31st May and 7th and 14th and 21st of June, meeting in Townhead Street Car Park at 7.00pm sharp.

Each session will last for approximately 1-2 hours and participants should bring along their own bike (make sure it is road worthy!) Don’t worry if you don’t have a bike as one can be made available through Ballymoney Cycling Club and Dalriada school, both doing a great job making community bikes available for public use. Helmets should also be worn and these also can be made available through Ballymoney Borough Council. As this is a bike week event, the training, which normally carries a charge, is FREE!

There will be refreshments and a certificate presentation on the final evening. So hurry and avail of this great opportunity as places are limited. To secure your place contact Annette on 07852263062. For further information on Bike Week and upcoming events you can call Ballymoney Borough Council on 028 276 60227. Remember “Bike Ballymoney, Bike Safely.”
