Ballymoney Cycle Club promoting Mayor’s Challenge

LOCAL cycling club Ballymoney CC are promoting the “Mayor’s Cycle Challenge” for anyone with a bicycle.

This is a series of fun events to encourage people to get out on their bikes at the weekend and enjoy the leisurely pace with other cyclists.

Everyone will be looked after by the leisure cyclists at Ballymoney CC and will be accompanied over the 9 weeks that the “Mayor’s Cycle Challenge” continues.

With the Challenge lasting 9 weeks and there will be medals presented with.... 9 weeks - Gold Medal, 7 weeks - Silver Medal and anyone who competes 5 weeks will receive a Bronze Medal.

In the New Year those who have completed the 9,7 or 5 week challenge will be invited by the town’s Mayor to her parlour for the prize giving.

The 9 rides will leave the Joey Dunlop Centre at 10am sharp every Saturday morning, and the routes will vary with nothing too hard for even the beginner cyclist. The length of the rides will depend on the riders fitness from 6 - 20 miles.

There will also be a similar event held after Christmas to help burn off the “2013 Festive Calories” and again this will be in the same type of format with prizes at the end of the series.

Off Season - Pudding Party with Ballymoney Cycling Club: With the racing season finished and the winter cycle runs being planned everyone is invited to Sketchers Coffee Shop in Bendooragh on Monday 22nd October from 7pm.

This is an event where the waistline is not considered, neither is there any training or diet plans on display.

Bicycle wheels, carbon frames, aero helmets and lycra will be swapped for pavlovas, apple and rhubarb tarts with fresh cream, sherry trifle, cheesecakes and chocolate sponge and anything else that meets your fancy. Come along and support your local cycling club with proceeds going to

help the club in 2013.

Sketchers Coffee Shop at 7pm, £5 for adults and £2.50 children.

Coming Events on the Cycling Ulster Calendar: This weekend is Cody’s Challenge.

Cody’s Challenge is in its 3rd year and is a cycle event in memory of Cody Gallagher who passed away with heart disease in December 2009.

The event is to help raise money for Children’s Heartbeat Trust charity that is a Northern Ireland based Charity that helps support babies and children who fight heart disease each day and give vital day to day support to the families.

All of the entry fee for this Sportive cycle goes directly to the charity, this event is supported by Steady Cycling Club and Forme Coaching and also by volunteers and family members who wish to help. This year’s event will have routes of 10/50/70mile so every category of cyclist is catered for. Please come and support a great family day out with fellow friends who want to help support local charity’s and get fit doing it.

This event will have goodie bags, catering, Marshals, support cars etc to aid each cyclist. Looking forward to seeing you all there.
