Ballymoney Cycling Club riders in weekend action

AT the weekend Ballymoney Cycling Club riders Bobby Kane, Nigel Elder and Stevie McAllister travelled to Belfast and Coalisland.

With the club riders supporting events promoted by the Castlereagh CC and Island Wheelers CC the club is getting maximum exposure and serious preparation racing for its riders by contesting in these races.

Phoenix GP race winner Bobby Kane choose the John Moore Memorial race at Carryduff.

This race saw Adam Armstrong (Eurocycles Dublin) attack from the line and break up the scratch group right from the start.

The Ballymoney rider who seems to now have his moves covered by the other competitors following his early season win at the Phoenix GP.

Bobby worked hard all day and in the final group sprint was 3rd giving him a very commendable top 20 placing.

The PJ Logan Cup on Sunday in Coalisland saw 120 riders taking their positions at the start in this annual and very popular event.

Ballymoney Cycling Club riders Stevie McAllister and Nigel Elder leading from the front in the new A4 race over 10 laps of the tight Coalisland circuit.

With the Phoenix CC rider Finbar Cummins attacking in the second lap the field put up a spirited display and saw the Ballymoney lads contributing in the chase.

Mechanical problems saw Ballymoney man Nigel Elder have to get off his bike to attend to a derailleur problem, he was unable to get back onto the fast moving

Group and had to settle for a good training run over the final laps.

Roe Valley rider Alastair Bratten attacked on the final hills to the finish but was reeled in at the line by the group, Alastair and Stevie were both in the top 20 riders at the finish.

On Saturday 20 March, the Ballymoney riders will be travelling to the Cicli Sport Grand Prix outside Moneymore, this event is promoted by

East Tyrone CC. On Sunday it is off to Bohermeen near Navan for the Waller Cup.

On Saturday evening from 7pm the club are holding a fundraising Poker Tournament at the Ballymoney Rugby Club, everyone is invited

With refreshments being served at 10pm. This has all the signs of an enjoyable evening.
