Ballymoney Cycling Club - ‘The road to the Podium’

WITH Olympic fever still firmly embedded amongst thousands up and down the country, Ballymoney Cycling Club have embarked on an ambitious and far reaching plan to find the next world beaters.

A planned and structured programme which spans between five and eight years has been launched with the aim of unearthing the best young cyclists, triathletes and sports people for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio and then the Olympics

in 2020.

The club will do this by using their High Performance Training Suite at Dalriada School and are looking for riders/athletes to represent Ireland and GB at the Commonwealth Games and the Olympics!

Equipment is provided by SportNI which featured on BBC’s Newsline and all the local and national Newspapers in 2012.

The Ballymoney CC “Road to the Podium” test team are Maurice McAllister, founder of Ballymoney CC in 1984, Alastair Henry a British Cycling Federation certified coach also a former junior Road Race and TT Champion, Jason Taggart, local rugby coach and BCC Time Trial champion, Ryan Patton, former top Irish schoolboy who competed with and beat the likes of Tour de France riders Nicholas Roche and Philip Deignan as well as winning a host of Irish races.

William Loughridge, former Ulster schoolboy road race and time trial champion, former coaching director and professional cyclist Stephen Gallagher, schoolboy and junior champion and winner of dozens of top races across the world including the 8 day FBD Ras here in Ireland in 2008.

Also assisting the programme will be Hugh McConaghie, Neville Patton, Rhona Laverty and Johnny Graham, BCC Child and vulnerable adult protection officers, Steven McAllister, Marshall Craig and a host of other experienced people from the club.

As this programme will be running on a constant monthly and weekly basis it will be very much an appointment only! Cycling Clubs and riders currently competing are advised to contact Stephen Gallagher at Forme coaching for specialised advise as this programme is very much designed to discover “NEW TALENT”

Try it and see if you like it... Ballymoney CC will provide you with a bike for a few weeks and help you get started in the

sport, if you do not like it you are not out a lot of money.... if you like it ... the Journey begins!

Ballymoney Cycling Club is the most successful Cycling Club ever in the North Antrim area with dozens of wins at every level in cycling from Open Road Races and Time trials with our schoolboys and girls, junior boys and girls and senior and veteran riders representing the club and the town of Ballymoney in countless podium positions.

The club enjoy a large support base amongst the local residents and businesses in the North Antrim area. They were voted ‘Cycling Ulster Club of the Year 2011’ out of more than 40 clubs and beat more than 200 clubs in Ireland to achieve Runner up in the “Best Club of the Year” competition.
