Ballymoney Cycling Club’s Laverty takes top spot

BCC Biesty’s Centra race team rider Stuart Laverty made the past seven days historical, not only for his heroic exploits in the hills of Donegal but for winning two local interclub road races at Dervock and Dunloy in the space of 24 hours.

The first race was his own club race, the Dervock Road Races, held in bright sunshine, Laverty and team mate Steven McAllister set about demolishing the field of over 50 riders. Catching all the early groups who received handicaps and burst away from a four man break along with McAllister they had almost two minutes at the finish line.

The next night the same tactics were employed at the Dunloy Classic Road Race with fast finisher Jason Henry the favourite to win, but with excellent team work and the unselfish riding of Ballymoney youth Robbie Doherty who jumped clear in the final two miles from the line forcing others to chase giving Laverty and McAllister a tow to the line. It was so close at the line the photo finish gear was used to split the two. First Stuart Laverty, second Jason Henry and third Stevie McAllister.
