Ballymoney Cycling's Andrew Allen (16) wins in Donegal

He romped home alone to win the second round of the North West League race taking the pole position fom his team mate Breandan Flannaghan third and Shay Donley in sixth, Shay was the first under 15 rider.

The next day it was off to the Stamullen GP and this time Andrew was pipped on the line and had to settle for second behind Irish team rider Aaron Doherty from Mayo. The three Ballymoney schoolboys along with junior Robbie Doherty riding in the A3 race at Clady, Woman’s racer Claire McAvoy who was third at the Ernie Magwood 10 mile TT on Saturday. This has brought the weekend tally of achievements to first place x two, third place x two, fourth place and a seventh...following on from last weekend the results and the profile of the Ballymoney top flight keeps soaring. BCC senior riders Steven McAllister fourth and Ryan Bankhead seventh continue the steady preparation for the An Post Ras 8 day stage race in May. This monumental race is the biggest event that the Ballymoney club have ever entered a team for. In the past competing in the provincial stage races, like the recent Tour of the North, upcoming Tour of Ulster, Gorey 3 Day, Newry 3 Day, Ras Donegal the National Road Race Championships and now the top stage race in Ireland the An Post Ras. The support for the five riders has been overwhelming from the business community and the lads, Aaron Swan, Steven McAllister, Craig McAuley, Ryan Bankhead and Chris McKeown all extend their appreciation for the help and support that they are getting. As they enter the final six weeks the training intensity will build and then taper off. Members of the public can meet these young cyclist along with the top Youth team members at the Development Display at Biesty’s on the May day Monday. The riders will be on their way back from competing in the tough Tour of Ulster. This display day will feature the BCC training and race bikes, along with strength and speed tests on the Wattbikes that have been used by the British Cycling Olympic track teams. Everyone can have a go and see if they can match the out put of our own youth and senior riders.

Last week’s LungBuster1 was postponed due to bad weather and safety concerns, it is now being run on Monday, April 18 on Ballybogey Rd. All help from BCC members is appreciated. Marshalling and road ends will all have to be covered and members not racing are asked to come. Balnamore Community Centre car park, sign on is from 6pm.
