Ballymoney edge out Cookstown in nail-biter

BALLYMONEY'S impressive season continued on Friday night as they added the Mullan Cup to the Progressive Senior League title.

But the lads from the Toon were made to work all the way by Cookstown in a thrilling final at Coleraine Bowling Club.

With the scores level at the end of an exciting contest it went to a tie end with Ballymoney sealing the overall win 78-73.

Alan Paul put the Toon in front by 12 shots with a singles win over Sean Quinn. But Damien McElroy hit back for Cookstown beating Gary Kelly by a single shot in the pairs.

Liam McHugh looked to have handed the Sizzlers a big advantage as he beat Alastair Steele by 18 shots in the triples. But Nicky McCaw rescued Ballymoney in a tense finish as he beat Tom McAleavey to take it to a tie end which Ballymoney won in what was the closest Mullan Cup final ever played.
