Ballymoney finish season in Blaze of glory!

BALLYMONEY Blaze Volleyball team netted their first ever league title last week and are now gunning for Ireland's top clubs.

Blaze were in action last Wednesday night in yet another thrilling encounter against rivals North Down Lizards in a league fixture on their home turf of Dalriada School sports hall.

Blaze went into the match knowing they would have a tough fight against the second placed Lisburn side and tensions between the two teams were high prior to the match.

On the night it was the local lads who came out on top with a 3-1 win, a double victory for the club because it also meant they were crowned division one champions 2009/10.

In the history of the club this is the first time they have won at the top level in Northern Ireland and they now look to the prospect of playing in the All Ireland Premier League next season.

Team player Alan McKnight was ecstatic with the win and commented: "It's great to see our hard work over the last few years has finally paid off.

"Everyone has been playing really well this year and we are unbeaten in all competitions. I hope we can have the same success in our cup run next month."

Blaze captain David Park said: "This is just the beginning of things to come for Blaze. The dedication and commitment shown by the team this year has been echoed on the court.

"We know we can succeed at the highest level and are looking forward to the challenges that next season will bring."

As division one champions Blaze will now have the opportunity to gain entry to the exculsive all Ireland league (the highest level of club volleyball in Ireland) by competing in playoffs against teams from other regions throughout the country.

The format of this league still has to be finalised by officials but no doubt the local lads will have all guns blazing when it comes to their turn.

The team would like to say a massive thanks to everyone who supported them during their recent match as well as throughout the year.
