Ballymoney give visitors Quinns six of the best

On Saturday Ballymoney Hockey Club raised their game a level after their defeat at the hands of Ards last week.

They played Belfast Harlequinns at home and as it was a hard-fought tight game at their previous meeting both teams were expecting some of the same.

Ballymoney were slow to get out of the blocks but with 15 minutes of the game gone the Money girls started to find their stride.

Jessica Lynch was the first to open the scoring when she tapped in a strike from Kate Caithness. The team were now getting into full stride and they tore the Quinn’s defence continually apart. Two more goals were added to the Money total before half time with Jessica Lynch adding another to her tally and Kate Caithness turned from provider to scorer just before interval.

From the restart Money continued to keep control of the game and within five minutes Katie Mullan converted from close range. Money then let Quinns slip into the driving seat and after a goal mouth scramble Quinns pulled one back.

Captain Susie Martin then replied in the best way possible four minutes later when she weaved her way through the Quinns defence and took her strike at the edge of the circle scoring Money’s fifth goal.

Money continued to dominate the game even at times under difficult circumstances and Katie Mullan put the icing on the cake when she scored a well executed drag flick from their final penalty corner. Final score Ballymoney 6 Harlequinns 1

Many thanks to Mark Evan for coaching and also the umpires for a good game.
